The Human Side of Innovation
The Importance of Teamwork and Resilience on the Path to Startup Success
At the conclusion of the event organized by Moneda Tech Group, "This Is What Innovation Looks Like," which focused on innovation and the impact of the S-Curve, Cristina Toscan, Head of Marketing at Moneda, offered a deep reflection on the human aspect of startups and innovation.
After a day centered on the role of users and the challenges of the growth and stagnation phases of a product, Toscan emphasized the importance of not only focusing on users as recipients of innovation but also on the creators behind the product. According to Toscan, while users are essential for a product's success, the people forming the startup team are equally crucial.
Toscan shared a personal view of the phases startups go through, beginning with slow growth. During this stage, she mentioned that everyone at Moneda faced moments when they considered giving up, but it was the team's resilience and creativity that allowed them to move forward. She assured that if it weren't for the human quality of their team and the passion for the impact they sought to create, they probably wouldn't be celebrating the event at that moment. In that context, she recalled a photo of the team in its early days, working from the home of Héctor Terrero, Moneda's CEO, where crucial questions like "Will people trust us?" were being asked.
Addressing the phase of rapid growth, Toscan highlighted how efforts begin to bear fruit, but with that comes increased pressure: new challenges, faster paces, and rising expectations. In this stage, the importance of strong teamwork—with clear communication and mutual trust—becomes more evident than ever.
Finally, when discussing the stagnation phase, Toscan underscored the significance of continuous research and collaboration within the team. She explained that innovation is not just about generating ideas, but about how people collectively evolve those ideas, pushing boundaries to constantly reinvent a product.
The event, which also featured participation from Barna Management School, Cairo, and Promipyme, served as a platform to inspire entrepreneurs and encourage collaboration among attendees. Toscan concluded her talk by thanking everyone involved, reminding us that innovation is not merely a technical process but a human effort that relies on human capital to achieve success.
The day made it clear that behind every innovative breakthrough, there is always a team of people making it possible to create products capable of transforming industries.
